About Me
Reducing Your Storage Stress

After visiting my storage unit recently to gather a few holiday decoration supplies, I realized that my unit was a mess. Finding the lights and the false tree was really difficult, and I knew that I had to do something to eliminate my storage stress. Instead of overlooking the issue, I spent a few weeknights organizing my space. I labeled boxes, threw away stuff that I didn't need, and re-stacked a few plastic totes. It really made a difference. My blog is all about reducing your storage stress so that you can focus on other things. You never know, this blog might free up a few of your weekends.

Between making strategic piles to help you determine what to keep, toss, or donate to running back and forth to the grocery store for extra boxes, the process of moving can be very confusing and overwhelming. To cut down on the chaos, many people rely on a moving company to safely get their belongings to their new home or apartment. One of the steps of hiring a moving company is securing an estimate. Here are a few things you can expect to see in a moving estimate.

Different Types of Estimates

Typically, you will receive two different types of estimates from a moving company: a binding estimate and a non-binding estimate. A binding estimate means that the price you are quoted by the moving company is the amount you will pay on the day of the big move. However, although the price is binding, there are some things that can impact the cost of your binding estimate.

For example, if you decide to move additional boxes or furniture on the moving day, chances are the moving company will charge you more. This price also means that if you suddenly decide not to move a few pieces of furniture or boxes, you will still pay the original price.

A non-binding agreement is an estimate you will have for the services. When the movers arrive and weigh all of the items being moved or calculate the number of rooms being relocated, you will be provided with a final cost.

Detailed Estimate of the Moving Costs

The movers will provide you with a detailed list of everything that is included in the move. This includes the estimated mileage, the approximate weight of the items, the square footage of your home, the number of movers needed to complete the job, and other factors that can influence the cost of the move.

For example, your moving company might charge more during certain times of year, if you are moving fragile items, or if your estimate also includes temporary storage.

The Total Cost of the Move

Finally, the moving company will provide you with a total overall cost of the move. Once again, this final cost can change, if you choose a binding versus a non-binding agreement. The best way to save money on the cost of the move is to get several estimates until you find a company that can help you move for a price you can afford.

Moving can be a very stressful situation. However, receiving a moving estimate does not need to be another headache.
